AI takes over the drive-thru in Dubai
KFC has unveiled the UAE’s first multilingual AI voice order taker at its Dubai drive-thru, marking a new era for customer service in the region. The system, named Chris, can understand and switch seamlessly between English and Arabic, offering faster and more accurate service.
Boosting upselling and customer experience
Developed by UK-based Sodaclick in collaboration with Americana Group, Chris doesn’t just take orders. The AI actively makes tailored upsell suggestions in real time. Since launch, 86% of orders have included upsell offers, with acceptance rates peaking at 75%, adding an average of AED8.5 (£1.70) to each order. Drive-thru manager Vinesh Reddy Teepi praised the innovation: “Beyond boosting revenue, Chris delivers a smoother experience for customers and acts like an extra team member.”
Breaking language barriers
According to Ihsan Jan, COO and co-founder of Sodaclick, the launch is more than just technological progress: “Introducing an Arabic conversational AI order taker is a major milestone in breaking language barriers and elevating customer experiences.” Sodaclick supports 96 languages with regional dialects, ensuring each AI persona feels natural, approachable, and culturally attuned.
Technology powering the future of QSR
The system is optimised on OpenVino and runs on Intel Core Ultra processors, enabling low-latency, on-device processing. Orders are transmitted directly to the kitchen display system, reducing errors and freeing staff to focus on food preparation and service. Mohit Mendiratta, director of restaurant technology at Americana Group, confirmed plans to expand: “This technology is transforming operations. We are planning to roll it out across more of our brands in the region.”
