President Sheikh Mohamed has endorsed the launch of K2 Think, a groundbreaking AI platform developed in the UAE that is being hailed as the world’s most advanced open-source reasoning model. Created by Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in collaboration with AI powerhouse G42, the model is expected to be released in the coming week. The announcement was timed with the birthday of the late President Sheikh Khalifa on September 7, honoring his pivotal role in championing technology and innovation in the Emirates.
Redefining the Future of AI
AI reasoning models are considered the next major leap in artificial intelligence, advancing beyond pattern recognition into critical thinking and decision-making. According to state news agency WAM, K2 Think has been designed to be “leaner and smarter,” often delivering performance equal to or greater than models far larger in scale. This means greater efficiency, flexibility, and applicability across real-world challenges.
Leadership Driving Innovation
President Sheikh Mohamed emphasized that the UAE is making steady progress in harnessing advanced technologies to power national growth. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), highlighted the launch as a milestone in the country’s AI ambitions. He praised the partnership between MBZUAI and G42 as a model for collaboration in delivering transformative innovation.
A Watershed Moment for the UAE
MBZUAI called the launch of K2 Think a “watershed moment” for the UAE’s AI sector and expressed gratitude for the leadership’s unwavering support of scientific and technological advancement. By pushing the frontier of AI reasoning, the UAE is positioning itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence, reinforcing its reputation as a hub for innovation and future-focused development.
