For Kalin Edrev, energy is not just a sector—it’s a lifelong mission that transcends borders, markets, and technologies.
Known for his growing impact on large-scale energy infrastructure across the Middle East, Edrev has spent the last decade cultivating projects in solar energy, LNG terminals, and refinery modernization throughout the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. But his latest endeavor is not just about expanding business. It’s about returning home—with purpose.
In November 2024, Edrev stood alongside Mohammed A. Khorsheed, CEO of Global Oil Center Kuwait, to witness the signing of a joint venture between Khorsheed’s company and the U.S.-based CLOVER INTERNATIONAL COAL CORPORATION. The agreement marked a new chapter for Middle Eastern energy collaborations, but for Edrev, it was only the beginning.
Two weeks later, the two partners met again—this time, not in the Gulf, but in Bulgaria. Together, they registered Global Oil Center Kuwait in Bulgaria Ltd., a company designed to serve as a transcontinental link between the Middle East and Southeastern Europe.
“For me, this is more than business,” Edrev shares. “It’s about connecting regions that have been underrepresented in global energy conversations—like Bulgaria—and bringing real, sustainable development back home.”
A Return Rooted in Progress
Born and raised in Bulgaria, Edrev’s professional journey led him through some of the most complex and capital-intensive energy projects in the world. But it’s his cultural agility—his ability to navigate the nuance of Gulf partnerships while understanding Eastern European realities—that now positions him uniquely.
The new Bulgarian entity is envisioned not just as a regional office or extension of Gulf operations, but as a hub for innovation, training, and cross-border dialogue. Edrev hopes it will catalyze more involvement from Eastern European nations in global energy cooperation.
“Bulgaria has the geographic and strategic potential to play a bigger role. We just need the right vision and partners to unlock that.”

Seeing Opportunity Where Others See Complexity
Navigating cross-cultural business isn’t new for Edrev. Each country he’s worked in across the Middle East has required different approaches—from the regulatory ecosystems of the UAE to the modernization pace of Saudi Arabia. But Edrev doesn’t shy away from complexity. In fact, he thrives in it.
“I’ve learned that some of the greatest opportunities lie in places others avoid because they’re ‘too difficult’,” he says. “If you’re willing to build trust and understand the landscape, you can do amazing things.”
His ability to build trust is evident in his partnerships. The collaboration with CLOVER INTERNATIONAL and Mohammed A. Khorsheed isn’t built solely on spreadsheets or profit forecasts—it’s built on aligned visions, and mutual respect for each region’s energy future.

A Personal Vision for Bulgaria’s Role
For Edrev, returning to Bulgaria to formalize this new company wasn’t just symbolic—it was deeply personal.
“There’s something powerful about coming back to your home country not just with experience, but with a plan to give something back. Energy isn't just pipelines and solar panels—it’s opportunity, it’s jobs, it’s resilience.”
He envisions Bulgaria as a bridge between East and West, able to attract investment, develop infrastructure, and serve as a launching pad for young engineers and innovators in the energy space.
Initial plans for the Bulgarian entity include solar infrastructure development, fuel logistics modernization, and the potential construction of LNG import facilities. There are also discussions around training programs for engineers and technicians, tapping into Bulgaria’s growing technical workforce.
Looking Ahead
In a world where energy discussions are increasingly shaped by climate policy, geopolitical instability, and digital transformation, Edrev believes personal relationships and trust-based collaborations will remain the strongest drivers of change.
“Tech evolves, markets shift, but what stays constant is people. Partnerships. Purpose,” he says.
As the joint venture between CLOVER INTERNATIONAL and Global Oil Center Kuwait continues to evolve, Edrev’s new Bulgarian chapter may serve as an example of how business can be deeply personal—and how a single person’s vision can tie together countries, companies, and continents.
