Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII) has partnered with Nvidia to establish a joint research lab in the United Arab Emirates, marking the launch of the region’s first Nvidia AI Technology Center. The hub will drive innovation in advanced artificial intelligence models and robotics systems, combining TII’s expertise in applied research with Nvidia’s cutting-edge AI computing power.

A Strategic Collaboration for the Future

This collaboration underscores the UAE’s commitment to becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence. Through the new center, TII researchers will have access to Nvidia’s specialized edge GPU chips to accelerate robotics development and AI-driven applications.

Powered by Nvidia’s Thor Chip

One of the key technologies to be deployed is Nvidia’s newly introduced Thor chip, designed specifically for advanced robotic systems. “It’s a chip that enables us to take humanoids, quadruped robots, and robotic arms to the next level,” said Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII. The use of this hardware positions the UAE at the forefront of robotics innovation.

Part of the UAE’s AI Vision

TII operates under the Advanced Technology Research Council, a government-backed initiative driving the nation’s AI and robotics agenda. As a major oil exporter, the UAE has invested billions in artificial intelligence over the past decade, leveraging its strong ties with the United States to secure access to transformative technologies.

Fueling the AI Boom

Nvidia’s collaboration with TII comes at a time when AI is reshaping industries worldwide. By launching this research hub, the UAE is positioning itself as a vital player in the global AI race, while advancing its ambition to diversify beyond oil and build a knowledge-driven economy.
