UAE Integrates Artificial Intelligence into School Curriculum for 2025–2026
For the first time, students in the United Arab Emirates will learn artificial intelligence (AI) as part of their school curriculum starting in the 2025–2026 academic year. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, introduces dedicated AI lessons taught by more than 1,000 trained teachers across the country.
Structured Lessons Across All Grade Levels
Students in the first and second cycles will attend AI classes once every two weeks, while third-cycle students will receive weekly instruction. These AI lessons will be integrated into the existing computing subject but delivered as standalone sessions focusing exclusively on artificial intelligence.
Amna Al Saleh, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Curriculum and Assessment Sector, explained that one session within the computing subject has been specifically reserved for AI education. “There will be 1,000 qualified teachers delivering the subject, equipped with the right expertise to teach AI,” she confirmed.
Comprehensive Teacher Training and Monitoring
To prepare educators, the ministry has planned an intensive training program during the upcoming professional development week. Ongoing workshops and follow-up sessions will continue throughout the academic year to ensure consistency and quality in teaching.
A dedicated committee will also oversee the implementation process, ensuring the subject is delivered effectively and aligns with educational goals.
Curriculum Designed for Ethical and Practical Learning
The AI curriculum aims to build future-ready skills, with a strong emphasis on ethical and responsible AI usage. Key topics include data, algorithms, software applications, real-world scenarios, innovation, project design, and policies related to artificial intelligence.
Teachers will receive ready-to-use resources, such as adaptable lesson plans, templates, and activity guides, to support classroom delivery.
Ministry Highlights Readiness for New School Year
During a recent media briefing held in collaboration with the UAE Government Media Office, Minister of Education Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri confirmed that schools are fully prepared to welcome nearly one million students across the country.
Preparations began as early as January and included facility maintenance, textbook distribution, uniform provision, school bus readiness, and staff training.
Reforms in Assessment and Project-Based Learning
In a significant policy shift, the Ministry of Education has abolished centralised exams for the second semester. From this academic year onward, schools will conduct their own assessments during the second term. Centralised exams will now be limited to the first and third terms.
The ministry is also expanding project-based learning, with its second phase rolling out to all second-cycle students in both public and private schools that follow the national curriculum.
Additionally, the National Assessment System has been enhanced with a new standardised proficiency test that will evaluate students’ skills in Arabic, English, and mathematics from Grades 4 to 11 in public schools.
Setting a Global Benchmark in AI Education
With this bold move to incorporate artificial intelligence into its national curriculum, the UAE is positioning itself as a global leader in education innovation. By equipping both students and educators with the necessary skills and resources, the country is taking a forward-thinking step toward shaping a future-ready generation.
